October Challenge #19--Who is the most famous person you've met (or come close to meeting)?

Image
Donny Osmond - of course.  I have had several near misses with him. Well, I guess I did meet him once at a book signing.  I was SO excited that I almost swooned! Then a couple of years ago my friend Jodi and I went to a concert and after the show we sneaked backstage to try and see him, but he had left before we got there.  However, we did get to meet his very nice drummer who took a picture with us!  The post about this trip can be found here . Finally, last December Jodi and I were at his concert again, and he ran out into the audience and started down the isle shaking hands with everyone along the way.  He was two rows behind us, but I did get to slap his hand. Obviously I'm very sheltered when it comes to famous people!

Donny & Marie

Fun date for Kim and I!  On the day after Christmas we hopped the Frontrunner train and rode to Salt Lake.  Riding the Frontrunner was so nice!  On the train we could just relax, no worrying about traffic or the weather.  Since it was snowing, I especially enjoyed the ride, since I normally panic anytime I am driving in snow!  We caught Trax and headed to the new City Creek Mall, we did a little sightseeing and grabbed some treats at Kneaders.  The view of the Salt Lake Temple from the mall was incredible!  From the mall we walked across the street and spent some time at Temple Square to see the lights.  We haven't been to Temple Square for several years, so it was very nice to wander around and take in the beautiful lights, listen to the recorded Christmas Story message, and see and hear all of the wonderful displays and messages in the visitor's center. Later that evening, Jodi and Dave Wilding met us and we headed to a wonderful...

Donny On Memorial Day

Image
On Memorial Day Donny did a benefit concert at Utah State University with Jessie Clark Funk and the The American Festival Chorus and Orchestra. Jodi was right on top of things and got us great tickets! We decided that we would give our husbands the opportunity to see Donny's great talent, so we planned a double date. We went to Cafe Sabor for dinner - usually a fantastic place - however, after a VERY long time, and several bowls of chips, we discovered that somehow they lost our order and we had to leave before we could enjoy our dinner. (Don't worry, they apologized and made it right.) We ended up taking our food to go, and just sat on the lawn scarfing it down and hardly enjoying it because we were late. The American Festival Chorus and Orchestra performed various patriotic numbers. They were very good. After that, Jessie Clark Funk sang for us. She is wonderful! She has an incredible voice and was very fun to watch. (sorry, my pictures of Jessie didn't turn out very good...

Donny Again!

Friday, July 26, 2008 So, I just got back from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Pioneer Commemorative Concert with the Osmonds as guests. It was an amazing experience! First of all, anytime I hear the Choir perform it is amazing, and when they are singing about patriotic or pioneer themes, I am usually overwhelmed by the spirit. Today was no exception. It was wonderful. Our seats were right down close, only 8 rows from the front, however they were way off to the side. We couldn’t see the actual performers very well, but we did get to see them up close as they emerged onto the stage. We got an up close look at both President Monson and President Uchtdorf as they entered and left the building. For a little while Donny was only a few feet from me! The Osmonds were fantastic as usual. They performed several of their hits from their 50th Anniversary tour. I can’t believe how much I enjoyed them singing some of their old songs with their much more mature voices. Donny and Marie sang some songs to...

A Quick Las Vegas Trip

Image
Whew! What a whirlwind trip! Marilyn, Jalyn and I left Wednesday afternoon and drove to Mesquite, stayed the night there and then left for Vegas Thursday morning. We spent the day shopping at the outlets, checking into the MGM Grand Hotel, swimming and floating in the "lazy river" at one of the five pools at the hotel, and then after a late lunch we showered and got all beautified for our night with Donny and Marie. The next day we got up, got in the car and drove back to Brigham City. It was a fantastic trip, but a little too much driving in too few days for my taste! Donny and Marie were wonderful, of course! The show was typical for Las Vegas, lots of bling, lights, dancing, and sequins. Both Donny and Marie even began the show dressed in silver and gold - Marie in 3" high heels and Donny in silver shoes that he claimed were mirrors! Both have incredible talents. Marie sang an aria that just about brought us to tears. They both did a ton of dancing. I was extremely am...
