Mass Casualty The mass casualty simulation for this semester turned out GREAT!  My class planned it very well and they had several outside sources that made it even better.  This semester's scenario was an avalanche that was triggered by a very depressed guy.  We set up as if we were in a ski lodge and the patients were brought into the building and placed in a room depending on the severity of their wounds.  Of course there were several mistakes  learning opportunities, but I think that overall it was very successful. Graduation I am really proud of these great students.  I see bright futures for each of them.  I was able to go to dinner with them and their significant others and we had a great time.  I love the friendships and bonds that are formed during nursing school.  One of the students gave me this adorable plaque that says, "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all".  I LOVE it!  I was th...

Because they are an online, global university, Western Governor's University holds graduation ceremonies only twice a year.  There was one in February in Orlando, Florida but we didn't feel like we could make that work.  We decided that the Salt Lake graduation would be much more convenient.  So, even though I finished all of my course work and received my diploma almost a year ago, my graduation day finally arrived.  Unfortunately things were crazy and hectic and since I was feeling a little trepidation about attending the ceremony where I literally did not know one person, I made the hard decision to not attend the graduation ceremony.  I did purchase the cap and gown because I knew that I would be wearing them while attending the graduations of all of my students. It just so happened that Tasha's graduation and my commencement ceremony were on the same night. We were both getting our Associate of Science Degrees. Since we obviously couldn't attend both ceremonies, I decided that I would forgo mine and attend hers. The decision wasn't very difficut for several reasons. First of all, Tasha has completed what she set out to do, to complete her Associate's and begin her practice as a massage therapist. In addition, my commencement was actually scheduled three weeks prior to completely the semester, so I wasn't sure that I would even earn my degree! Also, I have not completed my program yet, an Associate's is just a stepping stone. Besides that, I am so very proud of her, how could I miss this special occasion to celebrate with her.
