Paying it Forward

Image
Introduction: There is this awesome lady in our ward named Heidi who has had more than her share of spending time in the hospital lately with a son who broke his neck while skateboarding (he is a walking miracle!) and her husband with a torn Achilles tendon. Story:  This week Heidi called me out of the blue and asked if there was anyway that she could come to my house and help me with any project that needed to be done.  She remembered that I have been trying to organize and finish things from our remodeling.  I was very surprised and when asked why she replied that she wanted to "pay it forward" for all of the help that she received while she was in the hospital. At first I was hesitant to let anyone help me, and then I remembered how prideful it is to refuse a sincere offer of help so I consented to let her help.  She came over and we had a marvelous time cleaning out a closet chuck full of many miscellaneous items.  She helped me sort through everything ...

Finding Relatives - Part 2

Image
WHOO HOO! I can't believe how excited I am!   After spending hours doing research I just printed up my formal request to perform temple ordinances for family members that I have found! I honestly never thought that I would be able to to actually see the fruits of genealogy work (read previous post  here ).  But since I caught the bug, I seemed to be driven to research family names and details, and now I have really done it!  And, I'm happy to report that this may just be the beginning!  Hooray! I firmly believe in the temple ordinances and blessings that are attached to them.  I believe that many people have passed to the other side without the information needed to make an informed decision on receiving the blessings of the gospel while in this life.  Performing the ordinances vicariously gives them the opportunity to receive the blessings of having eternal or forever families and living with Christ and Heavenly Father eternally.  I feel so...

I can either be a night owl or a morning person - as long as I get 7-8 hours of sleep.  My norm before I became a nurse was pretty standard, to bed between 10 and 11 pm and up at 6 or 7 am (unless of course I had a late night of games or scrapping!).  In fact, in my life before nursing I can honestly count on one hand the number of times in my life I had slept in later than 8:30 or 9:00 am.   Onc...

Birthday and Baptism

As much as I am looking forward to having lots more grandchildren, it is also nice to only have one right now because we get to share so much with him (and probably spoil him a little too much!) This semester I get the opportunity to watch him every Wednesday evening while his mother is in class.  Many times it has turned out that he actually watches me since I am so exhausted and have to get up so early!  He has been wonderful to give me a blanket and put himself to bed when I fall asleep!  He is such a sweetie! Here he is as a detective!  He plays the part well!  Bubba's 8th birthday was a very fun day!  His mother was able to go to his school and share things about him for the last part of class.  Kim and I surprised him there with a bunch of balloons.  When we arrived at our house, he decided that he wanted to let all of the balloons go and watch them rise high into the sky.  The one Mylar balloon seemed a little slug...
