I love going on vacation - I hate catching up on the work that is waiting for me when I get back!  One day I believe that I will be able to have my lesson plans completed and will just need to tweek them a little before each class - however I am now very much still new at teaching and so I still have to prepare many hours prior to each class (a lot of the time studying the information I will present to make sure that I know it well enough to teach it).  Consequently I had to work long days this week to play catch up.  In addition, I knew that I was going to head up to the condo on Thursday night for our Sister's Retreat and I didn't want to have to work at the condo. Of course Murphy's law always applies when you are working hard to get something done.  In this case Murphy appeared in the form of a co-worker who had multiple stressors appear in her life that left her unable to carry her own workload.  Therefore my boss asked me if I would be willing to take...

I love to play games, and usually my favorite game is the one that I am playing at the moment.  Some of my favorites:  Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Blurt.  I absolutely detest Monopoly!   Lunch ~   What is the funniest story your mother or father tells about you? It's been a long time since my parents have had the mental capacity to tell any stories, so I couldn't come up with any answers.  My sister suggested it may be that when I was really little my parents had two little Honda Trail 90 motorcycles.  My parents want...

Memorial Day was spent with Tasha and Zane in San Diego.  We vicariously honored our loved ones who have passed away but obviously did not make it to any graves this year.  Instead we had a Harry Potter movie marathon and played more Harry Potter Clue. We didn't quite make it through all of the movies, but we did watch the first 5: The Sorcerer's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban, the Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix. We did not have time to watch the rest:  The Half-Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows parts 1 and 2.  I actually haven't seen these yet, so I'm looking forward to another marathon to watch them sometime. Tuesday it was time to say farewell - I always HATE that part! As we headed home the realization that we were coming home to a funeral of one of our beloved family members loomed over us.  We arrived just in time to shower and change for the viewing for Craig.  Although I was in a hurry, I decided to shave my ...

My phone.  I don’t have any idea how I survived without one for most of my life!  It is my lifeline now, especially with all of the internet capabilities and a great camera. Lunch ~  If we Googled your name what would we see?  I didn’t know, so I googled my name and a plethora of photos of young, thin, and pretty women popped up, so apparently I am young, thin, and pretty! Dinner ~   Tell us about your fist kiss? How sad is it that I can’t specifically remember my first kiss?  I believe that it h...

Busy, busy week trying to get all of my work done before leaving on Thursday to go to San Diego.  I worked 12 hours a day trying to get everything done so that I would be prepared to teach the day after we returned. I did take a little bit of time to go visit - and say a final good-by - to my brother-in-law, Craig.  It was very bittersweet.  Since being put on Hospice 3 weeks ago he has been doing pretty good but Sunday and Monday he took a turn for the worse.  He stopped eating and only would take very small sips of water.  It was evident that he wouldn't be on this earth much longer.  He responded with a head nod and small audible noises but not much else.  I spent a very enjoyable evening visiting with his daughters Mickel and Kristiann and his with wife Jody while sitting next to his bed.  The family seems to be at peace with his imminent death.  They realized that he had put up a valiant fight for many years and that his body was ...

There are very few things that I cook or bake well.  I seriously struggle in the kitchen.  I remember trying so hard when the kids were little to create something that the whole family would enjoy, but more than once one of the kids would taste it and then ask, “who made this, mom or dad?”  When told it was me they would shake their heads and say, “no wonder it tastes so bad”.  This is a true story!  However, I do have the ability to make killer brownies.  I found my recipe when I was only 8 or 9 years o...
