October Challenge #12--What music do you like? How has music influenced you?

I have said many times how I love music.   I have always enjoyed singing in the ward choir.   Gathering around the piano with my family is one of my favorite things to do!   In fact, my sister and I started singing around the piano as soon as I learned how to play.   The only frustrating thing for me is that I always end up playing the piano (even though I don’t play very well) so I rarely get to sing the way I want to.   Several years ago I was surprised when I was called to be the music leader in primary.  I’m not sure why I was surprised, I just never thought that I would be teaching anything about music.  I like to sing, but I am not very knowledgeable or educated about music.  Much to my delight I found that I LOVED teaching the primary kids songs about the Savior!  I did that for 3 years and loved every minute of it.  I honestly cried when I was released. Fast forward a few years, I was not only surprised but actually astonished when I was issued a call to be the ward ch

October Challenge #11--What are some embarrassing moments you've had?

Honestly, I feel that I have had more than my share of embarrassing moments!   Thank goodness that I have a good sense of humor and can laugh at myself! Most of my embarrassing moments have come through Word Salad - when I say something that I don't mean to say. I am drawing a complete blank on embarrassing moment right now, so I guess I will just save face and go on to the next challenge.

October Challenge #10--What is one little word you want to improve on for the next year?

How do you choose only one word?   My friend, Jodi , did a great job addressing this challenge.   I wish I could be as decisive as she.  There are so many words floating around in my head, I’m not sure that I can narrow it down to just one. Perhaps I will make a list of things I would like to improve on and then try to sum up with just one word.  Here goes . . During the next year I would like to improve on: Making healthy meals:  cook Getting more physically fit:  exercise Improve my scripture study and relationship with God:  spirituality Be more willing to help and support people I love:  care Hmmm, I think that is it!  The word I want to improve on is care .  If I care about myself and my family I will be more willing to cook and exercise.  If I care about my relationship with God I will devote more time to become more spiritual.  If I truly care about others, I will have a desire to help and support them. This year my word is:

October Challenge #9--What are some of your favorite holiday traditions?

Black Friday Shopping:   my sister and I have gone Black Friday shopping every year since our daughters were very young and we raced to get the very inexpensive Barbie dolls at Shopko! We do ALL of our shopping AND wrapping on that one day! Going to the condo with our family.  This is a tradition that means the most to me, just spending down time with the family, remembering with all of the hustle and bustle of the season that taking time just to love and appreciate family is most important. Christmas pajamas.  I keep thinking that we don’t need to do this anymore, but for some reason we just have to have fun pj’s on Christmas Eve. Christmas party on the first Saturday in December with the Olsens and Christmas Eve with the Duerdens.  Christmas morning with the Parrishes, enjoying the toys that Santa brought for them.  Even though there is so much hustle and bustle and I never feel like there is enough time to truly enjoy the holidays, I LOVE Christmas.  I lo

October Challenge #8--What are some of your favorite childhood memories?

I have always been blessed with great friends!  I can’t remember a time when I  didn't  have lots of good friends to play with every day.  We loved to play board and card games, ride our bikes, and swoon over teen idols such as Donny Osmond, David Cassidy, and Davy Jones.   We listened to the radio all of the time, KCPX 1320.  We had sleepovers almost every weekend, sleeping outside in sleeping bags whenever the weather was good. (Of course there were a few episodes of toilet papering friend's homes, but I won't mention that!) I have always been obsessed with boys and developed crushes that changed almost as often as the weather.  However, I had one crush that lasted several years.  My friend, Sue, and I would walk past his house so often that I’m surprised that there we  didn't  wear a groove into the asphalt. Overall I think that I had a very happy childhood!
