She will post a new one each Thursday night.   JOIN IN!!!   Breakfast ~ What is your recent biggest financial disaster? I booked and paid for a trip that we could use anytime within a year.  I should have known better.  If I don’t book with an absolute plan things never seem to work out.  Now with Tasha expecting I want to spend my vacation time with her when she has her new baby, so the trip will just be wasted. Lunch ~ How do you deal with things you can't change? After beating myself up about the situation, I then just try to either deal with it or try to forget it. Dinner ~ When things get stressful, what is your go-to for calming yourself? I wish I could say that I calm myself with something productive and healthy like going for a walk or yoga.  I can’t sa...

Caught between a rock and a hard place

My dad's memory has been declining at a rapid pace.  He quite often struggles to remember people that he doesn't see frequently, even my mom,  though he was married to her for over 50 years.  He forgets how to do things, and he forgets events that happened even moments before.  In addition, sometimes he remembers things that didn't even happen.  For example, sometimes he will call me and tell me that he had just gotten home from Salt Lake but he can't remember how he got there or who he was with (but he didn't really go anywhere).  The very hardest thing is that he KNOWS that he can't remember and is extremely frustrated by it.  It is difficult to watch him struggle with trying to tell me something he feels is important when he realizes that he really can't remember what he is trying to tell me.  Sometimes he gets depressed and says things like it would be better if he could just lay down and die because he isn't worth anything anymore.  Fr...

San Diego with Tammy

Image
I literally called Tammy at the last minute and she was able to book the same flight so that we could vacation together.  We had an adventure in the airport while waiting for our plane - it was delayed over 5 hours!  Needless to say we were bored silly waiting, but Alaska Airlines was very kind, they gave us a food voucher ($30 a piece) as well as a credit for our next flight.  I got brave and asked the ticketing personnel if it would be possible to change our return flight since we would be missing most of our first day in San Diego.  They willingly changed it for us and PRESTO our 3 day trip turned into 7 days! Our trip was PERFECT!  We spent a lot of the time just relaxing and hanging out with Tasha and Zane.  On Saturday we went to the Koby's Swap Meet.  It was fun to see all of the things for sell there, especially the fruit that was really inexpensive.  Tammy and I bought big floppy hats to wear since we had gotten a little sunburned ...

The Atonement is not because we are good but because God and Christ are good.

I came upon this quote today by Brad Wilcox, and it really hit home. The Atonement is not because we are good but because God and Christ are good. They love us not because we are always loveable, but because They are always loving. Understanding this helps us feel Their love even when we don’t see any reason to love ourselves. “I’ll never do it again,” we say. Then we do it. “Now I really mean it. I will never do it again.” And then we do it. At such low moments, it is easy to become discouraged and lose hope. We have such a hard time forgiving ourselves that we mistakenly believe God and Christ must be feeling the same way. We think each setback is devastating, but God and Christ simply recognize them as growing pains.  Brad Wilcox http://www.ldsliving.com/8-Things-the-Atonement-Is-Not/s/78498

A New (Used) Trampoline

Image
When Shandra was young she used to go to my parent's house every day and jump on the trampoline for hours and hours.  Kalel competes on the tramp as part of his gymnastics.  These two facts have been the basis for the argument that we should get a tramp.  Shandra lives in a condo and has no where to put one, and Kalel is here most of the time while she is work, so she thinks the tramp should be at our house. Although I see the benefits I still have considerable trepidation about getting one.  Most importantly, there is quite a bit of time each day that there is no adult around or awake to take an accident victim to the hospital.  My argument withstood Shandra's for a long time. . . until the Parrishes decided to move.  They offered the tramp to Shandra who immediately jumped at the chance.  I relented, but only because there is a net around the tramp to help avoid accidents. Kalel was a good trouper in helping to get it set up.  And true to hi...
