San Diego, Part 1

Thanks to the generosity of Tasha and Zane we spent an absolutely fabulous week in San Diego.  I'm so glad that Shandra and Kalel could go with us, and that Ashley, Mark, and Tristan could join us a few days later.

We started out our trip by arriving in good time at the airport.  Unfortunately there was a delay because one of the flight attendants had a medical problem - EMT's even responded - and the airline had to find a replacement.  Apparently it isn't easy to find replacement flight attendants on short notice!  We ended up taking off two hours late!  Poor Kalel, his mother had given him Dramamine for the flight, and it made him so drowsy that he fell asleep right on the floor of the airport!

We finally arrived, got our rental car (upgraded to a Ford Escape) and headed down the coast
AHHHH - the beach!
We arrived just in time to for Tasha to get off work, so we dropped off our bags at the condo, and met Tasha and Zane at Fuddruckers for dinner.  After dinner we drove back to Tasha's new apartment for a tour.  It was so nice that their apartment was literally 5 minutes from our condo!

Her apartment really cute.  It is one of approximately 800 apartments in the complex and has a nice fitness room, covered parking, and a pool with private cabanas!
Shandra and Tasha danced for a bit while . . .
Kalel and Zane watched Pokemon.
Their apartment is located right in the middle of the great tourist places in San Diego, less than 10 minutes to Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, and Old Town, not to mention the BEACHES!

We drove out to Coronado where Tasha works.  We had to pay for parking ($26 for 2 hours) but we were able to enjoy the beach at the Del.  It was incredibly beautiful!  I'm excited to stay there next time.
The Hotel Del Coronado or "The Del"

Kalel LOVES the beach!  He ran out into the water, then back to shore, dug in the sand, ran back out to the water, tried to jump the waves, and buried his feet in the sand.

Poor Tasha!  Her shoe fell off and almost floated away

So the boys buried it for her!
We drove down to Old Town and enjoyed the Hispanic Heritage there.  The Hunzekers took us to a fun little shop where everyone enjoyed cream sodas and jerky made from things like alligator and kangaroo.
Kalel spent most of the time learning how to blow across a bottle to make sounds.  It took him awhile, but he now is really good at it.
We did all of our grocery shopping at a fun Target just around the corner from the condo.  It had an escalator for the carts!
