My New Kitchen


 It all began as an idea for a Christmas gift.  Shandra came up with the idea and recruited Kim and Tasha to join in.  For some reason, they believed that I needed a new kitchen floor.  Could it be that they didn't like the look of the duct tape holding the linoleum in place?

Shandra picked out absolutely beautiful flooring, and I got all excited to start installing it.  But WAIT!  As I started looking around the rest of the kitchen - this is what I saw.  Green cabinets with disgustingly filthy handles and brown laminate counter tops with several burn mark scars.
This cabinet lost a door several years ago!  Kim said that we were starting a new trend, but I didn't agree!

I have always hated that fact that my counter top space was so limited, and oft times things got lost in this pantry.

Of course I couldn't put new flooring in a kitchen in such a pathetic state, so we marched right down and ordered new cabinets, counter tops, a new fridge (because the old one wouldn't fit with our new configuration), a new wall-mounted microwave, as well as a new french door to replace the sliding glass door that was miserable to open.

And THEN . . . the real fun began!

For 2 1/2 months we lived out of boxes stacked in the living room.  We used a big box in the hall as a dining table.  We stacked disposable "china" in our linen closet and cooked in the microwave on my desk in my study!  Needless to say, it was AWFUL!


Kim and his brother David are master handymen.  Together I believe that there isn't anything that they can't do!
The day we put in our new french door there was blizzard outside!  Our house was FREEZING!

We were very fortunate to have my brother-in-law Mark lend his expertise to have the door installed in no time!

And . . . . . Here it is - the finished product.  It was not fun during the process, but I absolutely LOVE it now!  I love having more counter top.  I love how open it feels.  I love the floor!  I love the hickory cabinets (Kim hand picked them to make sure that the most color showed)!





Was it worth it?  Absolutely!  
However, it will be a long time before we undertake another remodel (at least if Kim has his way!)

Fun Day With Bubba

Today Bubba and I had a great day! First we joined Ash and Tristan for a visit to the park. Bubba and Tristan ran and rolled and climbed and had all kinds of fun! Later, Kim and I had to run to Logan, so we decided that a quick trip to Willow Park was in order. Bubba was so excited to see all of the animals there. We saw turtles, geese, swans, cranes, peacocks, and deer. We watched an owl eating his dinner. We saw a couple of young antelope fighting - I think they were really just playing! We even saw a couple of wallabies! Of course, Bubba's favorite part was feeding the ducks! He got a little nervous if one got too close, but as long as they kept their distance, he had a blast throwing food to them. I'm sure that he just about wore himself out with all of the walking and running and playing. I know that I did!

A Walk With Christ

My friend, Marilyn, is immensely talented, creative, as well as a spiritual giant! She wrote a presentation called "A Walk With Christ" especially for our Young Women at girl's camp . I was so impressed with the presentation that I tattled to our Relief Society President and suggested that the sisters in our ward would benefit from the presentation. She agreed, and last night we again had the privilege of learning about the Savior by way of Marilyn's presentation. Because I was so moved and touched by the experience, I would like to share some of it (disclaimer: my words do no justice to the actual words from the script - both Marilyn's and those from the prophets and scriptures that were quoted). As part of the program, we heard the recorded words of Christ moving through the hallways of the building. Scones and Bonfire

I'm pretty sure that we have the greatest, most friendly ward in the world. I look forward to activities with ward members, we always have such a fun time. Tonight we had a scone fest in the mountains up above Jezak's house. It was quite an adventure hiking up, but once we got there we found that it was definitely worth the trip! They had leveled out a beautiful spot and built a huge fire pit. From this spot we could see the entire city. It was incredible. It has been rumored that Kim is the "Scone Master" so we put him to the test. He hauled his camp chef stove and dutch ovens up the mountain and then proceeded to fry up scone after scone. He did not let us down, each scone was perfectly cooked, not the least bit doughy, and fried to a beautiful golden brown. He is the Master!
