San Diego February Fun
Thanks to Tasha I found fabulous flights round-trip to San Diego for only $100! Of course we know what that means - a visit to San Diego to see Tasha and Zane! Fortunately the timing was right to also celebrate our anniversary. We stayed in the WorldMark Mission Bay condo again because it is literally 5 minutes to Tasha and Zane's house!
When we arrived, Tasha suggested we go to the nearby Waffle Spot for breakfast. What a fabulous choice! I am somewhat of a pancake and waffle snob, being very picky about the taste of my breakfasts. The Waffle Spot did not disappoint! The waffles are the best I have ever tasted! If fact, we liked them so much that we went back the next day!
King Waffle stopped and posed with us while we were waiting for our table.
It was SO great to be with Tasha and Zane again! It is truly amazing to me how the second we are together again it feels like we have never been apart. I love them very much!
We decided to take time out for a photo op.
Zane is just as crazy as Kim, always goofing off and having a good time!
Kim and I celebrated our 33 anniversary. I can't imagine how we could be married for that long since I feel like I am only 33! We must have married when we were babies. I love this man so much! We have had our share of ups and downs, trials and wonderful adventures and through it all my love for him has grown exponentially. It is an honor to share my life with him. Kim is an avid fan of the television show, "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" and his only desire during this trip was to eat at one of the diners highlighted on the show.
The vote for diners was overwhelmingly in favor of Hodad's in Ocean Beach.
The decor was walls covered in car licence plates, and in one corner there was the front half of a Volkswagon van that held a dining booth.
Hodad's makes a mean milk shake! Over the top and HUGH!
But they are most famous for their yummy bacon cheese burgers. These babies were HUGH! One thing that makes them unique is the bacon patty. Here is the recipe:
To make Hodad's bacon: roughly chop the bacon. Put in a saucepan with water to cover. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook until the bacon shreds easily, about 45 minutes. Drain. Chop the bacon fine and portion into 4 patties. Put the bacon patties on a hot griddle (or in a hot skillet) and cover with a griddle weight (or press repeatedly with a spatula). Cook until crisp. Flip over and cook until the second side is crisp as well. Remove the weight and place 2 slices of American cheese on each bacon patty.
Unfortunately the Bossman died just a few days prior to our visit. This memorial was set up at his van next to the restaurant.
Our trip did not entirely revolve around food, we also had many hours of belly-gut laughter as we played games on the Kinex. Who knew that Kim was a very accomplished figure skater, that Tasha could wriggle her arms and legs in a manor that tripled our scores, and that Zane could swing his hips to perfection! We also played our favorite board games, Ticket to Ride, Anomia, and Mad Gabs.
I couldn't be prouder of these two kids and how well they are living their lives. We had a fantastic visit and can't wait until the next one!
