Week in Review 2/19/17

I haven't had the opportunity to hang out with Kale and Brynnane forever!  We were finally able to co-ordinate our schedules to meet for a great lunch at  Scrud's Gourmet Grub on Ogden's 25th Street.  The burgers were great, although a little expensive.  It was so great to catch up with two of my favorite people.  I never would have made it through nursing school without their help.  I really miss spending time with them, although I don't think I want to study so much again.  They are both very successful nurses, both in home health interestingly enough.  Brynanne has cut her hair very short and looks absolutely gorgeous!  Kale is as crazy as always.  He was sporting a nasty finger injury that requires him to bend his finger hourly with resistance from pins and bands.
Of course, a visit with the gang requires ice cream - luckily there was a Cold Stone right down the block so we could continue our traditions.  I love Kale and Brynanne!
I spent the day Friday at the VA Skilled Nursing Facility doing clinicals.  It is a nice place, with staff that really love their clients.  However, the students didn't seem to get as much hands-on experience as I would have liked.  The shifts this semester are only 9 hours, which is very nice.

Memories:  These vintage pictures surfaced this month.  I just love looking at old pictures remembering how things were - especially when the pictures are of loved ones who are no longer with us.  I love seeing Grandpa and Grandma surrounded by family.  They loved being with family!  This made me smile. Fun Day With Bubba

Today Bubba and I had a great day! First we joined Ash and Tristan for a visit to the park. Bubba and Tristan ran and rolled and climbed and had all kinds of fun! Later, Kim and I had to run to Logan, so we decided that a quick trip to Willow Park was in order. Bubba was so excited to see all of the animals there. We saw turtles, geese, swans, cranes, peacocks, and deer. We watched an owl eating his dinner. We saw a couple of young antelope fighting - I think they were really just playing! We even saw a couple of wallabies! Of course, Bubba's favorite part was feeding the ducks! He got a little nervous if one got too close, but as long as they kept their distance, he had a blast throwing food to them. I'm sure that he just about wore himself out with all of the walking and running and playing. I know that I did!

Mom is Coming Home

We just got word today that mom can come home from Rehab tomorrow morning – a week earlier than we had expected. Needless to say, mom is thrilled at the prospects of being home again, and dad is quite excited also. I have to admit, I have mixed feelings. Honestly, it has been very nice having mom in a place where I knew that they were taking very good care of her. The food there is fantastic, the workers are extremely pleasant and friendly, and her care was wonderful. She has gained an incredible amount of muscle strength through her two-a-day physical therapy sessions, and they are fanatical about making sure that her food and fluids are exactly what she needs. Consequently mom is actually in better overall health now than she has been in the last two years. It has been nice for me to have them watching over her continuously to make sure that she does what she is supposed to and also to make sure that she doesn’t cheat on her diet or fluid restrictions.
