October Challenge #21-- Record something that happened in the last week.

I had the great opportunity of participating in a performance of "The Ten Virgins" by Emily Freeman.  We practiced and practiced and then we performed for two different Relief Society activities.  The story is taken from the one of Christ's parables in the Bible and is found in Mathew 25:1-13.

This musical parable tells the story of ten good women who were all given the gift of a lamp from a shopkeeper who lived high on a hill.  Each lamp was crafted for each one individually, tailored specifically for her needs or desires.  Every woman had a good heart and very good intentions, but five of the women, for different reasons, neglected to regularly fill her lamp with oil.  The oil could only be obtained from visiting the shopkeeper.

Each of the women sang a song telling of their own characteristics regarding their relationship with the shopkeeper and their gift of the lamp.

All of the women were invited to the feast and celebration of the shopkeeper's wedding, and they were all so excited for the opportunity.  However, the bridegroom did not arrive until late into the night.  By the time he had arrived, five woman found that they had run out of oil and therefore were not admitted into the celebration.  Although the other women would have liked to share, they knew that they did not have sufficient to share and had to turn the foolish women away.

This musical parable was beautifully written, the songs perfectly conveyed the messages and personalities of the women.  It was such a great reminder that we all need to continually fill our lamps with oil that we may be ready when the bridegroom comes.

"Like a lamp the Master planned each of us with His grand design
The oil is the light I will burn through the night
As I wait for Him to come again
There will always be enough if I run to Him to fill it up
Drop by drop by drop"

We must continually be prepared, spiritually, emotionally, and physically for all that lies ahead.  One day, in not too distant future, the Lord WILL come again.  At that day we will need to be prepared so that we will be able to join Him.  I testify by filling our lamps with scripture study, obedience to the counsel of the prophet, and by prayerfully developing a relationship with the Lord we will be prepared to meet Him.  And what a glorious time that will be!

It was such an honor to be part of this wonderful production!  It required an enormous amount of work, by Jody, the director and producer, by April, the accompanist, and by Peggy and Tina, the lighting masters.  Getting to know each of the other "Virgins" was a delight!  I (along with most of the participants) am sorry that it is now over.  I know that I have been changed because of my part in it.
